As I head out into the cold outside, I leave behind what I’ve done for the week, and look forward to the journey of tonight.
You wait for me by your car, and I can tell you are just as excited as I am.
We transport ourselves to another dimension, the worries of the weekdays behind us, our phones ring from messages and calls from friends, family, and workmates, mixed with the noise from the city bustle, but we ignore it with only the two of us on each other’s minds.
I enter our home, overlooking the city streets, with the aroma of lavender floating across the rooms because you know that’s what I like.
We chow down on some Pad Thai you bought as takeout while we talk about the most common or even the strangest things.
We continue the conversations naked in your bathtub, enjoying wine while looking into each other’s eyes, laughing at the silliest of things.
We dry up and you lift me to the bed, where we shed off our robes and feel each other until the daylight.
Suddenly this takes me back to before—the moments we sneak out to watch movies and feel each other’s presence while out and about.
It reminds me of why you came and stayed—yours was the world I lived in, and mine was the world you lived in, each imperfect on its face but perfect in our own little ways.
As the sky clears and the sun goes further up, I settle down with my chin on the top of your chest, sticking my face on your neck as I breathe in your essence of musk, sweat, and bath soap.
We were in our own little world for a while, ignoring the demands of the outside for a while, for a moment that wouldn’t last but would be worth the while.
We both know we couldn’t stay long as we have to return to the world that is reality, but just for that moment, we remind each other of the love we share and maintain.
Can you imagine a world like that?
